1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Adam Nutting DBA TopoSEO (“we”, “us”) handles personal data in connection with the Substack to WordPress Importer and our other WordPress plugins (the “Plugins”), including purchases of Pro licenses. Visits to toposeo.com are covered separately by our site Privacy Policy. This policy covers data we control; it does not cover third-party services that act as their own controllers (see Section 6).
2. Who is responsible

3. What we collect
When you buy. Purchases are processed by Freemius, Inc., our Merchant of Record. Freemius collects the billing and contact details needed to complete the sale (name, email, country/location for tax, payment details). We receive order and license information from Freemius but not full payment-card data.
When you use the Plugin (only if you opt in). During activation the Plugin offers an optional opt-in. If you accept, the Freemius SDK shares limited technical and account data to deliver updates, support and security notices, for example your site URL, admin email, WordPress and PHP versions, plugin version, and activation/deactivation events. You can skip this opt-in, and skipping does not disable the Plugin.
AI features. Some Pro features send the content you choose to process (such as image or post text) to a third-party AI provider using your own API key. That data goes directly from your site to the provider; we do not receive or store it. The provider processes it under its own terms and privacy policy.
4. How we use data
- To deliver, maintain and secure the Plugins, including updates and support.
- To process purchases, licenses and refunds (through Freemius).
- To respond to your enquiries.
- To understand and improve the Plugins.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
5. Legal bases (EU/UK users)
Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (delivering the product and support you bought), consent (the optional plugin opt-in), legitimate interests (securing and improving our products, fraud prevention), and legal obligation (tax and accounting).
6. Who we share data with
- Freemius, Inc.: payments, licensing and (if you opt in) update/usage data. Freemius acts as Merchant of Record and as a separate controller/processor; see its privacy policy.
- AI providers: only the content you choose to process, sent with your own API key, under their terms.
- Service providers: hosting and email tools that process data on our behalf.
- Legal: where required by law, or to protect our rights.
We do not sell your personal data.
7. International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).
8. Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above, then delete or anonymize it, subject to legal retention requirements (for example tax records).
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these, contact [email protected]. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. For purchase data held by Freemius, you may need to contact Freemius directly.
10. Website visits and cookies
Analytics, server logs and cookies on toposeo.com are covered by our site Privacy Policy, not this one.
11. Children
Our products are not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
12. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes
We may update this Policy. Material changes take effect when posted at toposeo.com. The “Last updated” date above shows the current version.
